RONALD SCOTT OBITUARY 

08/31/1947 - - 08/18/2024

Ronald Ray Scott, husband, father, friend, counselor, and man of deep, lived faith, passed away peacefully the morning of August 18, 2024, at the age of 76. Ron was born in Lexington, Michigan in 1947, the son of Rae and Marjorie, and was raised in Tyler, Texas. He graduated from John Tyler High School in 1965 and attended Baylor University, where he met his future wife, Carolyn Sue Martin. In 1969, he and Sue married, and he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. Soon the newlyweds set off for New York City, where Ron pursued a Master of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary. After earning his Divinity Degree, he immediately pursued a law degree at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, Texas.

After graduating from law school, Ron joined the trial group at Bracewell & Patterson in Houston, eventually becoming a partner. Ron found his true calling in the courtroom, a pursuit that combined his vast intellectual curiosity with his preacher's instinct for rhetorical flair. Ron was instrumental in the growth of Bracewell, leading significant litigation matters such as the firm's representation of school districts as plaintiffs in asbestos remediation cases, and later briefly returning to the east coast to help open the firm's New York office.

Ron and Sue had two daughters, Suzanne and Samantha. Ron was the ultimate girl dad, long before the invention of the term. He could always be found in the bleachers at their volleyball and basketball games, nursing a blow-pop and taking stats.

Ron was also blessed with deep and long-lasting friendships. He nurtured his friendships on the golf course, on trips, in book clubs, and in church. An only child, his friends were his brothers & sisters. He loved them like family.

Sue passed away in 2009, after their fortieth wedding anniversary. Ron's friends then introduced him to Linda Hinze, who had also lost a beloved spouse to cancer. The two fell in love immediately. They built a joyous marriage, filled with grandchildren (his and hers) and travel.

Ron is survived by Linda, his wife of 13 years; daughters, Suzanne Sampson and husband Jeremy of Spring, Samantha Brantley and husband Brian of Houston, stepson Stephen Hinze and wife Renee of Tomball, and stepdaughter Christina Richards and husband Matthew of Houston. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Bryce Hinze; Sarah and Samantha Sampson; and Amanda, Elizabeth, Colin, and J.J. Brantley.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday September 11 at 11:00 am, at St. Christopher Episcopal Church in League City, Texas, 2508 St. Christopher Ave., League City, TX 77573, with The Rev. Jim Nelson officiating. At a later date, a 'private' interment will be held at the Concord Baptist Cemetery in Henderson County, Texas. 

 In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Texas Hearing Institute, a charity close to his heart.
