Daniel Wells VIEW PROFILE

Daniel Wells

Dan Edward Wells, age 76 of Lindale, Texas, went to his home in heaven the evening of January 10,

2023.

Dan was born in Longview, Texas to Morris Cicero Wells and Daisy Love. He grew up in Tyler, graduating from John Tyler High School in 1965. He was a Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Tyler Rose City Chapter where he was a member for over 25 years and Bascom Methodist Church where he sang in the choir.

Before his retirement, Dan was a sign painter through his business, Dan’s Sign Service. He was a very talented artist, and when he was painting, he was an especially happy man.

He was a cowboy at heart, which is often reflected in his many oil paintings, including cowboys on horseback rustling longhorn cattle. His family used to tell him he was born in the wrong century. During the 1990’s, Dan and Cathy

lived in Wimberly, Texas, where his paintings were displayed in an art gallery. He and Cathy were part of a performance group called “The Wimberly Gunfighters” in which Dan played the sheriff.

Dan loved old cars, which also appear in many of his paintings. He loved going to classic car shows with his son, Toby (and anyone else who would go with him).

Dan loved singing in his church choir, often singing solos, as well as duets with Cathy when Bascom Methodist has their all-music services on the fifth Sunday of each month.

Dan had a quick wit and a dry sense of humor, often seen in his Facebook posts - such as his post of this quote by Will Rogers: “Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.”

Dan loved his family immensely and had a great love of animals, including for his dog, Maggie.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 44+ years, Cathy Denese Wells; his son Toby Edward Wells and wife Shelley of Denver, Colorado; his daughter Cristal Schlieve and her husband Jeff of

Leander; Texas, his son Scott Cowell of Houston; his brother Lawrence Wells and wife Roey of

Lynchburg, Virginia; his sister Nancy Bronaugh and her husband David of Lake Palestine; his four

grandchildren, Taylor and Megan Wells, and Dakota and Madison Schlieve; and several nieces and

nephews.

A service for Dan was held at Bascom Methodist Church on Sunday, January 15, 2023.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bascom Methodist Church, 12565 FM 848, Tyler, TX

75707 and the Kiwanis Club of Tyler, 315 N. Broadway, Tyler, TX 75702
